How to Use This Calculator
Enter your lot dimensions and your city's required setback distances. The green shaded area on the diagram shows where your enclosure can legally be placed. The red shaded strips are the setback zones where no enclosure is permitted.
Enter your coop's total footprint — coop structure plus any attached run — in the "Enclosure Size" fields. The calculator will confirm whether your planned enclosure fits within the compliant zone.
Where to Find Your Setback Requirements
Call your city's Planning & Zoning Department and ask: "What are the setback requirements for a chicken coop [or other livestock enclosure] in the [your zoning district] zone?" Or search your city's municipal code for "chickens" or "domestic fowl" and look for the setback provision. Our setback rules guide explains how these distances are measured.
Note: This calculator provides a visual estimate based on the dimensions you enter. It does not account for easements, irregular lot shapes, or setbacks from adjacent structures (some cities require setbacks from neighbor homes, not just lot lines). Always verify placement with your local planning department.
